Welcome to our June 2020 NECA Foundation newsletter. This issue we introduce our new board member, Ken Postill who has extensive experience and knowledge in the electrical and communications industry, as well as active involvement with the NECA Excellence Awards. Also in this issue, our latest update on the NECA Foundation website; the Charge Out Rate Calculator; and Succession Plan Training course and the donation of Ken’s Electrical Contracting Book to the NECA Foundation. All the best Tarek Farhat NECA Foundation website We are currently engaging a website developer to construct a website suitable for the foundations requirements. Charge Out Rate Calculator The charge -out rate calculator (CORC) has been developed and shared with the board for review prior to deployment to ensure its suitability for contracting businesses. The CORC will be located on the NECA Foundation website. Succession Plan “Retaining Key Staff” Training Course Employers invest significant resources in the hiring, training, and retaining of key employees. The course is intended to help employers hold onto employees that they’ve invested in but also to ensure that their best employees and top performers do not leave the business. The board considered the proposal provided by Simon Clatworthy to chair a workshop with the Board aimed at the development of the Succession Plan “Retaining Key Staff” Training Course. the aim of the course is to train business owners on how to provide an incentive to current employees to stay in their business. Electrical Contracting Book Ken Postill has donated his book “Electrical Contracting: Estimating, Quotations, Contracts, Project Management and Business Operations”, to the NECA Foundation. The book is being revised to include and update with modern-day practices and published on the NECA Foundation website for the benefit of the industry. NEW BOARD MEMBER: KEN POSTILL |
Ken Postill is no stranger to the electrotechnology industry with having both owned and operated his own business for over 11 years and working for Halmac Group in which he was installations manager for five years, growing the section from a crew of 13 to in excess of 50. Ken spent 27 years at TAFE – Ultimo College. Throughout the 27 years, Ken was predominantly engaged as a Head Teacher, completing in 2017. |
Ken’s professional career includes: National and State electrical trade curriculum development, including many of the first National modules. Ken wrote 60% of the National Restricted Electrical Licence course. Was a RTO representative with the Vocational Training Tribunal for ten years. Developed the NECA estimating course. Developed gap training for overseas trained electrical personnel to the requirements of the VTT. Is a long-time judge for the NECA NSW Excellence Awards Judge. Additionally, Ken has written a book called ‘Electrical Contracting’ which provides information and mechanisms for electrical contractors to use as tools in the operation of a successful business including topics on estimating, quotations, contracts, project management and business operations.
